As a way to lessen the economy’s reliance on manufacturing, Singapore opened its first casino on Valentine’s Day 2010. This was done to help transform the country into a tourist destination.
The first gambler at the Resorts World Sentosa was a middle ages Singaporean woman and this day happened to be the beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year. After her was a crowd of around two hundred more gamblers with even more waiting outside in the heat. Ice creams and bottled water was offered to those waiting by the ushers of the casino. This opening was for the first of two casinos planned which came after a rare public debate over whether or not this would cause the area to become a money laundering center.
There are family values at state also but safeguards were added that included an entrance fee of $100 Singapore dollars, equal to $79.89 U.S. This fee if for permanent residents only and anyone who filed bankruptcy is banned altogether. The second casino will open in a few months and was built by the Las Vegas Sands, it will be in the business district.
